As a tribute to veteran mridangam artiste and Tripoonithura Radhakrishnan’s father G Narayanaswamy who passed away on 21st Oct 1994, G N Swamy Trust (GNST) began its journey in the year 2000 with a simple wish to spread music, to impart music to every student who has the interest irrespective of their financial ability.

On October 21st 2000 (G Narayanaswamy’s Sixth Death Anniversary), G N Swamy Trust was formally inaugurated by Cine artist Late Aranmula Ponnamma. The first Principal of GNST was renowned singer Late Mavelikkara Prabhakara Varma.

The first teachers at GNST were :

Vocal – Mavelikkara Prabhakara Varma (late), Shri P Subramaniam, Shri Govindan Namboothiri.

Violin – Shri Nedumangad Shivanandan, Shri Satheesh Varma.

Mridangam – Shri Parassala Ravi, Shri Tripoonithura Radhakrishnan, Shri Raman Namboothiri.

During Navarathri Festival, the school holds daily Puja and musical events by renowned Musicians and the students of GN Swamy Trust. On Vijayadashami, Vidyarambham – a new beginning for obtaining knowledge, is done in all grandeur.

Over the years, GN Swamy Trust has hosted lecture demonstrations for its students by eminent musicians like Sangeetha Kalanidhi Shri. T. K. Govinda Rao, Shri. Prince Ramavarma Aswathy Thirunal and Shri. Poovalur Sreenivasan. In 2002, the Vidyalaya honoured Padmabhooshan Dr. K. J. Yesudas with a Swarnapathakkam (Gold medal) and the title “Sangeetha Mahaprabha”.

GN Swamy Trust has been honoured by the presence of great stalwarts of Carnatic music like Padmabhooshan Lalgudi Jayaraman, Padmabhooshan T. N. Krishnan and Shri. Neyyatinkara Vasudevan.

Since a year after the demise of G. Narayanaswamy, a concert has been conducted in his memory on the 21st of every October. From the year 2000, this is being done under the banner of GN Swamy Trust which has continued to this day.
